Subject: AI Tutors, Starting 5, and the Future of Transportation
Hello All!
Welcome to this week’s Letter, where you can read about 3 things I’ve thought about in the last 7 days.
3 Things From Me
A Ted Talk:
Sal Khan on the power of AI to transform education.
Khan Academy, a popular online learning platform, has rolled out Khanmigo.
Khanmigo is an AI personal tutor, built to help students learn.
Having access to a personal tutor has been shown to drastically improve educational outcomes for students.
Assuming Khanmigo can match the abilities of a human tutor (if it can’t yet, it will soon) then every student with access to the internet has a free, personal tutor waiting for them on Khan Academy.
A TV Show:
The Starting 5 premiered on Netflix this week.
It follows NBA players Lebron James, Domantas Sabonis, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, and Jayson Tatum throughout the 2023-24 season.
It got a little slow at times, partly because if you follow basketball you already know the outcomes of each player’s season.
I still thought it was pretty good, and especially enjoyed the segments on Lebron and Ant-Man.
A Cab:
Elon Musk and Tesla unveiled the “Cyber Cab” at their We, Robot event this week.
Fully self-driving, the Cyber Cab doesn’t have a steering wheel or pedals.
It’s expected to cost less than $30,000, with passengers being able to use it for trips at a cost of roughly $0.30/mile.
This would undercut all existing rideshare apps (Uber, Lyft, etc.) by a huge margin. Given widespread adoption the Cyber Cab would also lessen traffic and the need for parking lots/ramps.
Musk is hoping to have the Cyber Cab in production by 2026.
Peace,
Jacob Lipke
