Subject: Ultramarathons and the Best Team in the NBA
Hello All!
Welcome to this week’s Letter, where you can read about 3 things I’ve thought about in the last 7 days.
3 Things From Me
An Addiction:
I just completed the Wild Duluth 100km race last Saturday.
10,000 calories burned.
121,000 steps taken.
9,000 feet climbed.
One thing I noticed during the race was that most of the other racers do these long-distance events pretty often.
Signing up for different ultra-marathons around the country as often as your body is ready for it.
30 miles in that sounded crazy – I was in a lot of pain and still only halfway done with the race.
But seeing the finish line after almost 17 hours on the trail was a pretty spectacular feeling.
I can see why so many people chase it.
A Team:
The Timberwolves opened up their season this week against the Lakers.
It was a tough game to watch, with the Wolves having no answer for a dominant Anthony Davis.
Their second game of the season featured a win over the Kings, with an explosive performance from new Wolf, Julius Randel.
This is going to be a team to watch.
Prediction:
Timberwolves vs. Celtics in the NBA Finals.
Wolves in 6.
A Coincidence:
I ran across two different quotes in newsletters I subscribe to this week.
“Choosing what to pursue is more important than choosing how to pursue it. Make sure you’re facing the right direction before you start running.”
– Mark Manson [from Mark Manson’s Your Next Breakthrough]
“If you dig a hole and it’s in the wrong place, digging it deeper isn’t going to help.”
– Seymour Chwast [from James Clear’s 3-2-1 Thursday]
I’ve been thinking about this a lot for my current job.
Deciding where to put my time and energy to most help the 57 students I serve.
Are there any areas where I’m pouring energy in without really moving the needle?
Is there anything easy I could double down on that makes a big impact?
Peace,
Jacob Lipke
